Hamilton Ladies 0 v Cheddar Ladies 16

20 January 2019

Cheddar travelled to Hamilton for their penultimate match of the season determined to get back to winning ways.

It only took 3 minutes for Cheddar to take the lead when Kirsten Cooke pushed through on the right wing and slotted home for the first goal of the game.

Just 5 minutes later, Sinead Boys stormed past the defence and slammed home the team’s second goal. Boys followed it up a minute later with goal number 3.

Cheddar kept up the pressure, pushing Hamilton to stay in their own half. Captain Jade Burton stepped up to slot in goal number 4.

Hamilton broke through once or twice just to keep Keeper Rachel on her toes. However the attacks didn’t amount to much as Hamilton only had a single striker up front against the Cheddar defence.

Boys was hungry to get her hattrick and half an hour into the game she netted another to take her tally to 3 and just for fun slammed another past the keeper to make it 4 for her and 6 for the team in total so far.

Cheddar kept up the pressure and played some good football at times and Kirsten Cook got back on the score sheet again wirh her second after some good football on the right wing.

The very versatile Judit Salamon stepped up to the mark just before half time and scored while playing in her third position of the game!

Captain Burton closed up the scoring in the first half with another on 43 minutes.

Half time score was 0-9.

With some subs used and changes of positions, it was Charlotte Fay-Fineran who got her well deserved goal after 3 minutes into the second half and the versatile Salamon, liking the taste of glory, took her total to 2 after some niffty footwork in the midfiled.

Cook kept ploughing forward looking for her hattrick and was rewarded after some good play with Lauren Faulkner and Boys.

Sinead then pushed through the defence and fired home for her 5th of the game taking the team total up to 13.

Hamilton kept fighting and never once gave up and had a great team spirit despite the score.

Captain Burton finally found her hattrick with about 10 minutes to go and Abbie Pring managed to put her name on the score sheet after some near misses throughout the game.

Not to be outdone, Fay-Fineran had the last say of the game and got her second of the game bringing Cheddar’s total to 16.

Although the back line wasn’t very busy in this game, defenders Charlotte Scriven, Jo Reason and Mel Harris were ready when needed and cleared up any threats while keeper Rachel came out on a few occasions to clear.

A good away win by the Cheddar girls.
