Cheddar v Crewkerne 6 January 2019

Cheddar Ladies were hoping to get 2019 off to a good start by taking on Crewkerne ladies in their first game of year.

Cheddar got off to a great start with Captain Jade Burton smashing home from close range after the first 2 mins of the game.

Cheddar had most of the possession and played some good football but missed a number of chances to further their lead. There was some good play and battling for all the girls with everyone determined to capitalise on the good start.

However, it was Crewkerne that got the next goal when their striker managed to slip pass the defence and her speed and poise on the ball helped her to slot it past keeper Rachel Rousell.

A shoulder injury saw Chelsea Llwellyn being substituted and replaced by Judit Salamon.

Cheddar were taken aback from this goal against the run of play and struggled to find the net again when Crewkerne too advantage of some mistakes and netted their second of the game and taking the lead to 1-2 at half time.

Cheddar made some changes at half time with Manager Walsh making an appearance to try to get things back on track.

It took less than 3 minutes for this to happen and get the score back to 2-2 when Walsh slipped through the defence and fired home.

This gave the Cheddar girls a new lease of life and they upped their performance and were unlucky on a number of occasions.

Some great defending by the Cheddar back line and fine shot stopping from Rachel Rousell kept the girls in the game.

The Christmas festivities took their toll on both sides with both teams running out of steam, but it was the Cheddar girls that kept pushing forward and some good passing from the midfield and good communication in front of goal saw Walsh square the ball to Kirsten Cooke who made no mistake and fired home from close range to make to it 3-2.

Cheddar threw everything at the game to try and finish it off but Crewkerne didn’t give up and managed to beat the keeper for a third time to take the score to 3-3.  Despite best efforts from Cheddar they were unable to break through the defence again and the game finished a draw.
