Cheddar Reserves impressive win over Cutters Friday
Cheddar Reserves entered this mid-week game, following an impressive win against Keynsham Town Reserves in the County Cup, and were keen to keep up their momentum in the League.
Cheddar were on the front foot from the start, slicing Cutters down the middle. Harry Hughes linked up with John Edwards whose, quick feet and vision found Will Cahill’s determined run and he coolly slotted past the advancing keeper within the first 5 minutes.
15 minutes later, Cheddar thought they had missed a guilt edged chance after some great work from Hughes down the right found captain Adam Davies 2 yards out, with only the keeper to beat the ball was somehow cleared to Josh Underhill, lurking on the edge of the box. Underhill had other ideas, slipping the ball to his left for Edwards to strike a stupendous drive into the top right corner.
Cheddar were now rampant, with Cutters struggling to get into the Cheddar half and on the half hour a delightful corner from Davies was flicked on by Cahill for Underhill to bundle in from a yard.
Cutters were now trying everything to stop a rout and went to a high line. That didn’t phase Cheddar and Hughes latched onto Davies’s perfectly timed through ball, nonchalantly sliding the ball past the keeper to grab the fourth in the dying seconds of the half.
With double figures looking possible, Cutters came out with different ideas and tried to throw the Cheddar team off their game with a more physical approach. This only succeeded to make this young Cheddar team more resolute, with the defensive unit of Kris Willmott, Tom Davies and Jake Buxton comfortably dealing with any threat and Kieran Webster, between the sticks, generally a spectator.
Cheddar’s widemen, George Fairchild and Toby Jones created chance after chance for the forwards and midfield. It was only the heroics of the Cutters goalkeeper that ensured Cheddar didn’t add to their tally until the 89th minute when Robbie Wallis’s hardwork was rewarded as he met the pass from Jones’s cross.
Final score – Cheddar Reserves 5 Cutters Friday 0
Man of the Match – Josh Underhill
